Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is unimpressed by Pep Guardiola's suggestion that Spurs are over-reliant on Harry Kane, saying he was never disrespectful to the Manchester City manager by calling Barcelona a "Lionel Messi team" when he was in Spain.

But in the same sentence he said Manchester United and Mourinho, he said Tottenham was the Harry Kane team.

However, with limited regular game time so far at Spurs due to the first XI's success in both the Premier League and Champions League, the talented youngster may well see his future elsewhere if he is unable to secure guaranteed minutes on the pitch.

Despite the frustration it has caused, Pochettino was quick to quash any theory that Guardiola's comments would be the inspiration that will drive his side in their attempts to go one better than their runners-up spot previous year.

Guardiola made the comment after being asked which teams he believes will challenge his club, Manchester City, for the Premier League title this season. When it's exciting after an awesome victory against Chelsea, sometimes Kempes in 1978, in 1986 it was the "Maradona team, ' the 'Dream Team" with Johan Cruyff.

"It doesn't affect me but in the reality it was very disrespectful for many people", the Argentine continued. I think everyone deserves to be recognised as part of the success of the team.

Speaking ahead of Spurs' meeting with Bournemouth at Wembley, the ex-Espanyol coach described Guardiola's observations as "sad" and suggested it was not uncommon for him to overstep the mark post-match. Maybe I can answer when someone attacks my team or my club but I would never be disrespectful about what Mauricio and Tottenham did.

"I think Mauricio, for the times we've met each other and the times I spoke with him... maybe my English is not quite well". I think it's the same. "It is not right in today's football when we want to show fair play and respect". "I am sure I will reply", the 45-year-old concluded.

"It was amusing when I heard him the other day because I know Pep very well", the Argentine said during his Bournemouth pre-match press conference.
