In a new low, President Donald Trump becomes the first sitting president to address the Values Voter Summit, an annual gathering of anti-gay Christian extremists who aim "to preserve the bedrock values of traditional marriage, religious liberty, sanctity of life, and limited government that make our nation strong".

Trump told the annual Values Voter summit in Washington he's followed through on promise after promise since taking office. He says Gorsuch is in the mold of Justice Antonin Scalia, the conservative whose death in February 2016 created the vacancy on the high court that Trump was able to fill.

The president insisted that he was "stopping cold" attacks on Judeo-Christian values and was determined to protect religious liberty.

He added that people were saying "Merry Christmas" again and hoped Congress will pass his tax cut proposal as a festive gift to the American people. "When America is unified, no force on Earth can break us apart".

Trump also issued a call for unity at the event, recalling recent tragedies affecting the nation, such as the mass shooting at Las Vegas, the wildfire claiming lives in California and devastation caused by hurricanes along the Gulf Coast, in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. "We stand with our friends and allies, we forge new partnerships in pursuit of peace and we take decisive action against those who would threaten our people with harm".

Trump issues statement honoring women for International Day of the Girl
The day is also to reflect and remember all girls for their resilience and tenacity in all the challenges that they go through. But look carefully, they are telling a story; the story which is shared mutually by millions of girl around the world.

"We will not allow government workers to censor sermons or target our pastors, our ministers, our rabbis", President Trump said. However, there is no president of the USA territory - that would be Trump himself. This is America's heritage, a country that never forgets that we are all - all, every one of us - made by the same God in Heaven. "I got the evangelicals".

"One of the promises I made you was I'd come back. You watch. There are no more decent, devoted or selfless people than our Christian brothers and sisters here in the United States".

And win them over he did - 80 percent of white evangelicals cast their vote for Trump last November, according to exit polls.

Trump entered the packed room to a standing ovation and cheers, pumped his fist to chants of "USA", and then thanked and encouraged a receptive crowd at the Values Voter Summit who played an important role in helping elect him president. The latter was a change from the previous two elections, when lopsided margins among Hispanic Catholics gave Barack Obama the edge over John McCain and Mitt Romney among Catholics.
