Boone told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year: "We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe". What's scarier, seeing Arya Stark in danger, screaming for her life, or the familiar sounds of a Pink Floyd classic playing in the background? Haven't we already had enough cookie-cutter X-Men movies to last a lifetime?

If the star power of X-Men: The New Mutants hasn't sold you (the film also features Split's Anya Taylor-Joy and 13 Reasons Why's Henry Zaga), the man behind the camera might.

The film follows five mutants who are told they are in a hospital because they are unsafe.

THE NEW MUTANTS were first created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod in 1982, and were in fact the first spin-off in print. Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga), the trailer's lone adult, asks. "This isn't a hospital; it's a haunted house!" one says.

You might recognize Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, and the other New Mutants trying to navigate this scary situation are Magik, Cannonball, Sunspot, and Mirage.

However, the trailer suggests this could be yet another intriguing and interesting departure from typical superhero territory.

It has a planned release date of 13 April 2018 (12 April in Australia) from 20th Century Fox.

The first trailer for the horror-influenced New Mutants is filled with dread, jump-scares and a handful of familiar Marvel Comics characters in an entirely new setting.
