NaVorro Bowman is no longer a member of the San Francisco 49ers. Bowman was set to count a team-high $12 million against next year's salary cap. 49ers general manager John Lynch tested the waters, but ultimately there wasn't a trade partner that worked for all sides.

The report of the 49ers talking trade with teams comes on the heels of the 49ers deciding to sit Bowman for some series to keep him fresh.

"It became evident that going in different directions was best for both him and our team", Lynch said.

Here we look at how the 49ers came to release Bowman and what it means for him and San Francisco going forward. The only players remaining in San Francisco who played in that Super Bowl following the 2012 season are now left tackle Joe Staley, center Daniel Kilgore and tight end Garrett Celek.

When healthy, Bowman is considered one of the best inside linebackers in the league but has an injury history that is likely to cause concerns for multiple franchises. "We had a conversation and, I don't know - they're doing what they want to do and, I don't know". But another injury past year to his Achilles tendon cost him 12 games, and he's been noticeably slower to react in the passing game this season.

There is a ton of interest in Bowman, and here are five teams that could scoop him up after the weekend. The team is shopping star LB NaVorro Bowman.

In 2015, Bowman showed that he could bounce back from injury, recording 154 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. He had been upset about being taken out for stretches of games after being accustomed to being an every-down player most of his career. From the 2011-2013 season, Bowman was a tackling machine, having a least 143 tackles in each of those seasons.
