Even National Public Radio jumped into the debate.

Walt Disney World announced that it will soon be allowing dogs at some of its resort hotels.

Starting October 15, for the first time ever, four Disney resort properties will be designated as "dog-friendly".

Disney's Yacht Club Resort, Disney Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, Disney's Art of Animation Resort and the cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground are all participating in the new pilot program.

Guests who bring their dogs will receive "Pluto's Welcome Kit" at check-in, which includes a mat, bowls, pet ID tag, plastic disposable bags, puppy pads, and dog walking maps.

Four Walt Disney Resorts are going pet-friendly. The kit will also include a Pluto "Do Not Disturb" dor hanger to indicate to hotel staff that a pet is inside the guest's room. It will only cost guests an extra $50 per night to bring their pets to Disney Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, Disney's Art of Animation Resort or the cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, and $75 a night to have them stay at Disney's Yacht Club Resort.

For additional fees, Disney World's on-property facility called Best Friends offers other pet-care services, including day care. Large sections will remain canine-free for guests with allergies or other concerns.

The dogs are expected to be well behaved and on leashes, as well as have proper vaccinations.
