He further said Pakistan and other countries have started to have respect for the U.S. again. This could form part of the discussions between Indian officials and leaders when US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson visits India in the last week of October.

"We hope to see this type of cooperation and teamwork in helping secure the release of remaining hostages and in our future joint counterterrorism operations", Trump had said in a statement soon after news about the rescue operation surfaced in the media.

The two countries still have conflicting interests - and the Trump administration's vow to apply more diplomatic pressure on Pakistan is unlikely to work, given Islamabad's growing alliance with regional heavyweight China, say analysts.

The deteriorated relations started mending after U.S. vice president and PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi held a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in NY where both high ups agreed to restore ties through negotiations.
