Gurdaspur bypoll: Crisis in AAP as party dissolves unit in two districts

In Gurdaspur bypoll results, Jakhar polled 4,99,752 votes, while BJP's Salaria polled 3,06,533, poll official said.

The Congress today wrested the Gurdaspur seat from the BJP with its Punjab unit chief Sunil Jakhar trouncing saffron party candidate Swaran Salaria by a whopping margin of 1,93,219 votes in the high-stakes bypoll. The Gurdaspur by-polls was conducted on 11th October where around 56 percent of the 15.22 lakh registered.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh congratulated Sunil Jakhar on his victory. As per the reports, the counting centre for the six assembly constituencies of Gurdaspur district, set up at Sukhjindra College Gurdaspur and the counting centre for the three assembly constituencies of Pathankot district set up at the SD College in Pathankot.

The seat fell vacant in April following the passing away of veteran actor Vinod Khanna, a four-time MP from the seat.

Major General Suresh Kumar Khajuria (retd) are the main contenders. The seat is an IUML stronghold.
