But their ground game - while far from flawless - is a different story, and Karan Higdon is the biggest reason they beat unranked IN 27-20 on the road IN overtime Saturday.

At the half, MI held a 13-3 lead after a pair of field goals and a 12-yard touchdown run by Karan Higdon. Once again, Michigan's defense bailed out the offense.

As time wound down, the Hoosiers converted a long punt return into an 8-yard touchdown pass to Whop Philyor with 3:27 to go to close to within 20-17.

An interception on fourth down in overtime, courtesy of pressure from defensive end Chase Winovich, ended Indiana's upset bid and helped MI sneak out of town with a 27-20 victory.

West Virginia (4-2, 2-1) beat a ranked opponent for the first time in 10 tries. Higdon broke a 59-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, then followed up on the first play from scrimmage in overtime. MI took a 10-point lead into the final four minutes of the game before penalties and special-teams miscues opened the door for a comeback. The Hoosiers ultimately settled for a 32-yard field goal by Griffin Oakes to close to within 13-3 with 1:46 showing on the clock. Penalties were the main culprit this week.

IN now stands 3-3 going into its own date with Michigan State next Saturday afternoon in East Lansing.

Higdon finished with 200 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries, providing most of the offense for MI (5-1, 1-1 Big Ten) on another day when the Wolverines struggled to sustain drives.

For the second week in a row, Michigan's offense struggled to find its stride under the direction of quarterback John O'Korn. Higdon's big game was the program's first 200 yard game since Mike Hart did it back in 2007. The fifth-year senior completed 10 of his 20 pass attempts for 58 yards. The Wolverines still have Penn State (next week) and Ohio State (season finale) on the schedule, but at least, for one more week, those pesky Jim Harbaugh to the National Football League rumors can be on the back-burner for a week.
