In addition to save transfers, the 4.0.0 update also allows you to capture the last 30 seconds of gameplay via video capture. The system then automatically saves the past 30 seconds to the console's album.

That's great news, but keep in mind that the data transfer is local move, and doesn't back up game save or software data in Nintendo's cloud. It can be initiated through the System Settings menu, where a new Transfer Your User and Save Data option will appear under Users. You could take screenshots to share online, but recording videos would require something more complex, like a capture card between the console and a screen.

Transferring game save data and user profiles between one Switch console and another sounds more straightforward, however. The new feature works with selected games including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Arms, and Spaltoon 2, with support for more games to be added in the future.

Nintendo's wildly successful Switch console is already pretty great, but a new software update makes it even better. Nintendo has not indicated if or when other titles will be supported, and for now, it also hasn't announced the ability to simply grab those video clips as files to be used however you see fit. There is also now a pre-purchase option available for certain games on Nintendo's eShop for the Switch. Luckily, you can capture your adventures in Super Mario Odyssey when it launches next week! Nintendo, however, is said to be inviting developers and publishers to release more mature games for the Nintendo Switch, such as the violent first-person shooter Doom by Bethesda.

But at least it means it's ready for Super Mario Odyssey next week, which we've just checked for the feature and... are probably not allowed to tell you about right now.

Once an updated has been downloaded, you'll be asked if you want to install it via a notification.
