But Baldridge said the only thing he subsequently received from the White House was a letter of condolence.

"There is a substantial process that can involve multiple agencies anytime the President interacts with the public, especially when transmitting personal funds", the official said.

Trump claimed this week that he has "called every family of somebody that's died, and it's the hardest call to make".
