"Obviously, we're only humans and we make mistakes but we are trying to get that high level as much as possible", said De Bruyne, who has scored 15 goals with Manchester City.

"It's so early, if you lose two or three games, you go back to a [lower] position".

Pep Guardiola's side, having been level on points with Man United since week one, now have a two point lead over United at the top of the table following their demolition of Stoke City over the weekend.

City have won 11 of their opening 12 games this season, with the 1-1 draw against Everton with only 10 men their only blip in the Premier League, while they have made a flawless start to their Champions League campaign.

The Citizens now sit top of the standings with a two point lead over neighbours United, five points more than third-placed Spurs and a huge nine-point lead over Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

De Bruyne has been a huge reason for City's success this season, with two goals and seven assists in 11 games in all competitions so far, most recently providing an assist in the club's 2-1 win over Napoli in the Champions League.

"With the same people and same manager they had problems winning away last season", he said. "But we'll put hard work into it and we have to keep going".

Guardiola wants the fear factor to continue: "I said many times last season we dropped a lot of points at home".

"It depends on everything - you need good play, the atmosphere needs to be good in the group, you need a little bit of luck, you need to be together to win a tournament and hopefully in that time we have it".

City have been winning praise from pundits for their brand of attacking football and De Bruyne says City are playing close to Guardiola's vision for his team.
