It also features 802.11ac Wi-Fi, 1080p visuals, and Dolby Audio.

Amazon's full version of the Fire Stick TV does have 4K but it costs US$70 and does not ship to New Zealand.

According to Amazon, it is launching the Fire Stick to provide a simpler way for consumers in those countries to access Amazon Prime Video, home of The Grand Tour, Transparent and not a whole lot else, frankly. Inside, the streaming stick comes with a 1.3GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.

The product push expands on last year's global launch of Amazon Prime Video and helps the company get its low-priced devices in more hands. So for now, it can offer Fire TV devices without Alexa in those (many) markets that are not yet supported by Alexa.

United Kingdom auto sales slump 12% on low consumer confidence

After all, audio and video streaming is rapidly taking off around the world, not just in the United States and a couple of other key Western markets.

Up until now, customers in most markets have been limited to watching Prime Video through an app on mobile phones and tablets, smart TVs, or through the Prime Video website. Additionally, the interface language can only be set to Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Italian, German, or English.

The new Fire TV Stick Basic Edition is basically the same as the second iteration of Amazon's streaming stick.

The Fire TV Stick Basic Edition sells for $49.99 (on the USA site, at least) and is available to purchase as of writing in more than 100 countries around the globe. The new stripped-down Fire TV Stick is priced the same as a Chromecast dongle. This may explain why it costs more than the regular version of the Fire TV Stick, which now sells for $39.99. Here, the Fire TV Stick Basic Edition costs $50, while the more-capable Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote costs just $40. Another thing to point out here is that Amazon is advertising the Basic Edition as having a $49.99 price tag, but its pricing may still vary depending on the customer's location.
