Nicki Minaj's brother in court as jury deliberates child rape charges

Nicki Minaj's brother has been found guilty of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl he considered "a daughter".

Sources close to Nicki tell TMZ ... she won't be involved in any way in Jelani Maraj's Long Island court case, where he stands accused of raping an 11-year-old girl - his stepdaughter at the time.

The New York Daily News reported that a Nassau County jury deliberated for two days to find Jelani Maraj, 38, guilty of predatory sexual assault against a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

The verdict in the trial of Jelani Maraj capped a sordid three-week Nassau County Court prosecution rife with horrific testimony from the shaken accuser about the unrelenting abuse.

The first sexual assault occurred in April 2015, just fourth months before the girl's mother married Maraj in $30,000 celebration where Minaj picked up the tab, officials charged. Maraj faces the potential of 25 years to life in prison.

Maraj's attorney in the case, David Schwartz, has not yet responded to the verdict, so it is not yet known whether his client intends to launch an appeal.

Maraj did not appear to react when the verdict was read in a Nassau County courtroom.

Robinson, who filed for divorce previous year (16), denied the allegations during her testimony, while the court also heard evidence from the alleged victim and her younger brother, who claimed he walked in on Maraj assaulting the girl, who did not take the witness stand. The Associated Press reported a jury found Maraj guilty of predatory sexual assault November 9 following deliberations. One juror told reporters that the young girl's testimony was hard to listen to.

She said Maraj's wife told her: "It's gonna take lots of money to get out of this one". A scientist testified the DNA was a 1 in 291 billion match to Maraj.

James R. Ray III, the previous defence attorney in the case, was sacked for demanding $25 million from Maraj following his arrest to settle a potential lawsuit. Sentencing is to take place December 14.
