Messi made himself unavailable for global matches after Argentina suffered a defeat to Chile in the 2016 Copa America final for the second straight time.

Jorge Sampaoli's side were not at their best but thanks to Aguero this is another positive result, following on from the 3-1 win over Ecuador that sealed their place at next summer's finals in the final round of games in South America qualifying.

Messi was in action for Argentina in Saturday's 1-0 win over 2018 World Cup hosts Russian Federation in Moscow but will return to his base in Barcelona, Spain ahead of his club's Spanish La Liga fixture next weekend against Leganes.

Driussi has represented Argentina at U17 and U20 level, scoring a total of eight goals in 23 appearances, but is yet to join Messi in the full worldwide squad.

"Messi and Aguero has so much understanding during the game which was good".

Messi nearly opened the scoring within three minutes of the restart but his chip over Akinfeev after a lovely throughball from Aguero was cleared by Konstantin Rausch with Salvio lurking behind.

Aguero broke the deadlock when he headed in a rebound from his own blocked shot after a sharp break down the right wing and low cross from Cristian Pavon.

Nicolas Otamendi's overhead kick was pushed over the top by Akinfeev and Di Maria shot wide in the 68th minute, with the visitor unable to make its dominance in possession count.

The stadium was destroyed in 2013 in order to be rebuilt to host the games of the 2018 World Cup.
