According to a source familiar with the negotiations, Goodell has not budged from an offer he submitted around August 1 in which he asks for $49.5 million per year, the lifetime use of a private jet and lifetime health insurance for his family (cue the players' fury).

The committee will discuss a compensation package for Goodell who now makes around $30 million per year. The requests have thus far been turning head in a negative way among the NFL's elite, with one owner saying that the demands are "offensive" and "unseemly".

The NFL's Compensation Committee will discuss the proposed contract extension Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday, according to ESPN, and it appears as if the Goodell is asking for a big raise. Specifically, Jones is worth $5.6 billion and has seen himself accrue this worth primarily during Goodell's tenure as NFL Commissioner. Players protesting during the national anthem have led to a downturn in viewership across the league.

"Roger is defiant", one owner told ESPN. "He can stand to show some humility, but he won't listen to staff". Cohen claims Blank told owners that the compensation committee would vote unanimously on Goodell's deal. It doesn't seem that Goodell is going to walk away willingly either.

"I'm willing to bet on myself", Goodell said in a months-ago meeting with the committee, willing to forfeit much of the money that his current deal now guarantees in lieu of earning the bonuses. As PFW reported this week, Jones may have a half-dozen owners in his corner, while a larger group remains displeased with Goodell but isn't sure how to respond, and a growing faction is furious with Jones over his public handling of the NFL's private business.

Jones also denied that Goodell's suspension of star Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliot for domestic abuse allegations was the main reason for the potential lawsuit.

As for what is best for the the game of professional football, one could argue that Goodell should be focused on resurrecting the NFL's ratings this year instead of his salary.
