Earlier, Pare said nine to 10 officers fired their weapons; of those officers, five are Providence police officers. No officers were hurt. He said no weapons were found in the pickup truck.

"As that vehicle is driving in a very aggressive manner, this vehicle is now being used as a weapon in an attempt to flee and it is hitting other cars, it is ramming at least one other auto", Col. Clements said as he walked reporters through the events leading up to Santos' death.

After that, the bullet-riddled truck began pouring smoke, and police moved in.
