Now that Mattel has made a doll for girls like her, Muhammad knows it will make a difference: "I hope that little girls of color across the heartland will be inspired to embrace what makes them unique", she said of girls who will play with this Barbie. Like Graham before her, Muhammad made sure the doll represented her in body shape and in her makeup.

Her doll will be available for sale in the fall of 2018.

Muhammad is the latest honoree as part of the Barbie Shero program, which "recognizes women who break boundaries to inspire the next generation of girls". I'm really excited to have this moment happen in my life and also for all these little girls now who can shop for [a] Barbie doll that may look [like] them, may wear a hijab like they do, or like their mom does, or like a friend does.

Ibtihaj Muhammad just announced that Barbie is making a doll in her likeness.

"Through playing with Barbie, I was able to imagine and dream about who I could become", she said in a statement provided to Bustle. (OK, we still take them out once in a while.) We're kind of her biggest fan, and now we have another reason to love the plastic doll even more. The summit is an annual event celebrating influential women in a wide range of fields.

Sony Reveals Skyrim VR PSVR Bundle, New TV Spot
Skyrim VR will be making its way onto the market this November and Sony couldn't wait to bundle it up in a nice little package. Here's what Sony had to say, "This is the full length open-world game you have been waiting to experience in virtual reality".

Italy Miss First World Cup In 60 Years As Sweden Qualify
Sweden defended their narrow lead until the last, a feat that for all their pain Italians should surely appreciate. Gianluigi Buffon applauded wildly, presumably in solo protest against his own supporters' bile.

"Ibtihaj Muhammad has challenged every stereotype-which to me is the definition of a modern American woman", said Glamour Editor-in-Chief Cindi Leive. Hence the reason there is now a hijab-wearing Barbie.

Shejah Shal Miller, the vice-president of global marketing for Barbie, spoke about the company's decision to honor Muhammad. "Hijarbie" creator Haneefa Adam made headlines earlier this year for dressing up Barbies in hand-made hijabs and modest clothing to make them more relatable for Muslim girls who dressed the same way. The first is to make "playtime more inclusive", all the while "getting children accustomed to seeing headscarves in order to help fight stigma".

It is not the first time Mattel, which is now facing financial difficulties, has honored an American Olympian with a doll. She won a bronze medal in sabre fencing, thus also becoming the first female Muslim American athlete to win a medal at the Olympics!

Muhammad's face lit up when she saw her Barbie replica, identical to her down to the fencing uniform and white hijab. And that's something to celebrate.
