Hizbul militant, soldier killed in encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam

The gunfights erupted in Kulgam and Pulwama districts, south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. As the troops laid cordon, they came under heavy fire from the militants, triggering off an encounter. "The militants were asked to surrender, but they fired from automatic weapons". A policeman associated with the Special Operations Group (SOG) suffered injuries, police said. One terrorist has been killed in the operation.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Nowbug Kund village in Qazigund area of Kulgam this morning.

The slain militant was identified as Mudasir Badroo, a resident of Yaripora in Kulgam.

Gunfight was going on, the spokesman said, adding, further details are awaited.
