Mugabe in trouble: 4 army tanks move towards capital

Mnangagwa was dismissed after clashing with Mugabe's wife, Grace, who is now in prime position to succeed her 93-year-old husband.

His statement came after President Robert Mugabe last week fired ex-vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa, his political ally for more than 40 years, on allegations of disloyalty and deceit.

Both Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe's famous "blue house" and the Zimbabwean Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has been sealed off by heavily armed military personnel, Khuluma Afrika is reporting.

In response the party's Youth League accused the military chief of subverting the constitution.

"When it comes to matters of protecting our revolution, the military will not hesitate to step in", Chiwenga told a press conference on Monday.

"The current purging and cleansing process in Zanu-PF which so far is targeting mostly members associated with our liberation history is a serious cause for concern to us in the defense forces", he said apparently stung by the recent dismissal of Emmerson Mnangagwa as the country's vice president.

Chiwenga's statement was outrageous and calculated to disturb national peace and stability, party spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said in a statement.

Today, four tanks were seen moving towards Harare, while two other tanks were seen parked beside the main road from Harare to Chinhoyi, 14 miles from the city, pointing in the direction of the capital.

War veterans broke ranks with him in 2016 and have vowed to form a broad front with the opposition to challenge his long rule.
