Amazon's Alexa and Prime Music arrives for Canadian users

The Amazon Echo is a hands-free, voice-controlled speaker with seven microphones that use beam-forming technology and noise cancellation for noisy rooms. If you've been hankering for an Amazon Echo, now is your time to buy, as Amazon has knocked 22 per cent off the price of the new Amazon Echo and 30 per cent off the Echo Dot. Developers have also built more than 10,000 Alexa skills for Canadian customers from companies like Air Canada, TD Bank, TELUS and more.

For those unfamiliar with Alexa and the Echo lineup of devices, Alexa is a smart assistant that can do everything from read the news, get local weather, play music, control your smart home, and - my daughter's favourite pastime - ask Alexa questions about just about everything.

"We're excited to bring [Alexa] to Canada with an experienced designed from the ground up for our Canadian customers", said Amazon Senior VP Tom Taylor in a statement.

Now customers can pre-order their Amazon Echo devices from Amazon Canada whose shipping will begin on December 5th.

Amazon has been encouraging online shoppers to avail of Alexa since it made over 100 exclusive deals available for Alexa users during its third-annual Prime Day sales event on 12 July. Amazon is offering them at discounted introductory prices: the Echo will be priced at C$99.99 (usually C$129.99), Echo Dot at C$49.99 (usually C$69.99), and Echo Plus at C$169.99 (usually C$199.99). Prime Music, which features over 1 million songs on demand, is now included with every new and existing Prime membership in Canada.

Amazon Music is available on Echo, iOS, Android, Mac, PC, Web, Fire TV and select automobiles.
