For decades Charles Manson has been one of the world's most notorious mass murderers but it looks like his time may soon be coming to an end.

Manson, 83, was in a Bakersfield, California hospital and his condition was unclear, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing Kern County Sheriff's lieutenant Bill Smallwood. Manson has been incarcerated in various California prisons since 1971, when he was convicted of first-degree murder, despite never participating personally in his cult's violent crimes.

In the summer of 1969 he asked his youngest followers to murder seven people.

The next night, Watson and two female cult members tied up and stabbed Leon and Rosemary LaBianca to death in their Los Angeles home. It's his second reported hospital visit this year, after a January trip for what TMZ says was serious intestinal bleeding.
