A Singapore Mass Rapid Transit Cooperation (SMRT) train of East-West Lane struck another train when it stopped at the Joo Koon MRT Station platform on Wednesday (11/15/2017) morning around 8 am local time.

They later said the passengers and two SMRT employees had been sent to nearby hospitals with "light to moderate injuries", adding that most of the victims were discharged after treatment.

While the four stations on this extension - Gul Circle, Tuas Crescent, Tuas West Road and Tuas Link - will reopen after the weekend, the authorities will keep service between Joo Koon and Gul Circle stations suspended for up to a month.

In explaining what occurred prior to the collision, Chua said the first train stopped and detrained passengers at the Joo Koon station at 8.18am yesterday due to an anomaly in the train signalling system.

After the incident, an announcement was made over the systems asking for passengers to move forward to the first cabin.

This train was in front of the second train which would later also stop at the same station.

Following the incident, SMRT shut down services between Boon Lay and Tuas Link stations for a few hours to "facilitate the recovery" of the two trains. SMRT Corporation has took to Twitter about the incident.

In its latest update, LTA said the findings were that the first train departed Ulu Pandan Depot with the software protection feature, but the feature was inadvertently removed when the first train passed by a faulty signalling circuit.

SMRT, the operator, said all trains were running despite the accident but added that passengers might face intermittent delays of 10 to 30 minutes heading towards the Tuas Link station, the last station of the Green Line in the east. "The driver said on the speaker system that help was on the way", said Ong. Free bus and bridging bus services were provided.

"And we fell on our backs because of the fall".

The remaining 11 sustained minor injuries of sprains and minor head injuries.

Ong said some passengers hit themselves against railings in the train.

Several passengers were flung against panels and steel railings inside the train, while others were piled on top of one another.

"A while later, as I was in the first cabin, we heard some passengers knocking on the driver's door to tell the driver (that) there was someone injured".
