Mother of Texas toddler found dead now facing charges

More than two weeks after Sherin went missing, her body was located in a culvert underground during a search operation in the area of Spring Valley and Bowser Road, near their house in Richardson.

Chennai: Almost a month after foster father's arrest of in death case of Sherin Mathews, a three-year-old Indian toddler, her foster mother was held and charged with "abandoning or endangering a child", according to a statement issued by the Richardson Police Department.

Sini is being held on $250,000 bond. She is expected to be arraigned Friday morning.

An investigation revealed Sini and Wesley went to a restaurant and left Sherin home placing her in "imminent danger of death, bodily injury, or physical or mental impairment", on October 6, according to an arrest affidavit.

Sherin was left alone in the kitchen of the Mathews home. "It's not necessarily related to her death, it's related to her care that she was being given while she was in that home".

According to WFAA, an itemized receipt from the restaurant confirmed that the family ordered only one child's meal the night of October 6. "This was purely based on what we were told by Wesley", said the officer, noting that Mathews has previously changed his statement three times as to what happened on the night Sherin died.

Hours later, on the morning of October 7, Wesley Mathews called police and reported Sherin missing.

Wesley Mathews had initially said he sent Sherin outside to an alley near their house about 3 am because she refused to drink her milk. When he returned, Wesley said she had disappeared and that her location was unknown. Later, in the garage, Wesley Mathews said was still trying to get his daughter to drink milk and she wouldn't listen, so he "physically assisted" her. He said she was gone when he returned 15 minutes later and then, he went inside to do laundry, waiting for sunrise so he could continue searching for the little girl.

Wesley Mathews, 37, remains in the Dallas County Jail on a charge of causing serious bodily injury to a child.

The investigation into the girl's death is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Wesley Mathews, who is charged with felony child endangerment and faces a life sentence, continues to refuse any legal representation while in custody, according to a Facebook update by the police November 8.

There is now no evidence to corroborate Wesley Mathews statement that Sherin was still alive when her family returned home. The couple's other child is being placed with family in Houston, Texas, in the wake of her parents' arrests. The couple's surviving child has been in foster care since shortly after her sister's disappearance.
