Warriors vs. Celtics, Thursday night

They also know it could easily end on Thursday night when the defending champion Golden State Warriors visit the Garden.

Boston trailed by more than 15 points on multiple occasions, but the C's continued to battle throughout and were tied with 20.2 seconds remaining in the game. It's just not in the same way as Curry and Draymond Green, among others, and Durant certainly appreciates he can just be who he is. With chants of "M-V-P" ringing throughout the building, he calmly made the free throws. The other win came against the Hawks on February 11, 2015.

Irving gave the game ball to Jaylen Brown, who scored 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had two steals and two blocked shots - after learning of the death of his best friend in Atlanta the previous night.

The Celtics improved to 14-2 with the win, while the Warriors fell to 11-4.

Hayward fractured his leg and dislocated his ankle in the opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers - a disgusting injury to look at that will likely keep him out for the 2017-18 season.

The Warriors led by as many as 17 points, but a fearless second-half run led the Celtics back into contention.

Boston took too long to get into its offensive sets, was beaten on the glass and went cold from 3-point range during a lackluster first quarter. The Rockets made 61 percent of their first-half shots to get the second-most points in a first half in National Basketball Association history. Iring and Morris each had five for Boston.

Warriors: Their 88 points was a season-low.

Durant was the only one of the three to score during a 12-0 Warriors run late in the second quarter.

Brown led all scorers with 11 points, while Durant paced the Warriors with nine.

Unfazed, the Warriors pushed their lead back to 17 seven minutes into the third quarter.

Boston has obviously been winning without Hayward (13 straight before Thursday's game against Golden State), but his absence still hangs over the team.

But the Celtics began to chip away at the 4:32 mark. Warriors coach Steve Kerr, tongue planted firmly in cheek, before the game: "Huge game".

But as it stands, Boston holds the league's best record.

He hit two free throws to put Boston ahead in the closing seconds.

Having Hayward around the team gave Boston some extra energy as well.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE GAMEIt was all Jaylen in the third quarter.

Warriors: Continue their four-game road trip Saturday at Philadelphia. Tip-off from Phillips Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
