Malcolm Young, AC/DC guitarist, dies at age 64

He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted.

"His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed", he wrote. They added, "From the outset, he knew what he wanted to achieve and, along with his younger brother, took to the world stage giving their all at every show".

Van Halen called Saturday, the day AC/DC announced Young's death, "a sad day in rock and roll".

George Young, another brother to Malcolm and Angus, died on October 23 at age 70.

Young's death follows the passing of Angus and Malcolm's brother George Young in October. It cites a prior interview with Angus that touched on Malcolm's condition: "Malcolm was always very organised [so] it was kind of odd. As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special".

Malcolm Young, the guitarist, died at his home at the age of 64 years.

According to Rolling Stone's bio of the band, they were formed in 1973, ten years after Angus and Malcolm moved, with their family, from Scotland to Australia. It was one of 168 gigs the band played in support of their fifteenth studio album "Black Ice", which was released in 2008.

In 1991, three teens died at an AC/DC concert and the band went silent for a few years, reappearing in 1995 with their album "Ballbreaker", produced by Rick Rubin.

AC/DC plans to create a memorial website at which fans can send messages to Malcolm Young's survivors, including his wife, O'Linda; children, Cara and Ross; son-in-law, Josh; three grandchildren; and his sister and brother.
