Sixth seed Grigor Dimitrov has defeated David Goffin in three sets at the O2 Arena in London to win the ATP World Tour Finals title. Dimitrov took charge of proceedings early on, playing a brilliant point by coming in on Sock's backhand, pushing his opponent out of position and then volleying into open court to earn the first break.

After five breaks of serve in the first set, the second was a much tighter affair, with Dimitrov missing out on a potentially decisive break in game six after a Hawkeye challenge. "I won the most important points, especially in the first set".

The win will propel Dimitrov to a career-best position in the ATP rankings, where he will finish the year as third in the world, irrespective of the outcome of the final against Goffin.

Yet the Swiss and Dimitrov will take home a record prize of $2.5m should they win the ATP Tour's season-ending event as undefeated champions. I was at the right place because, you know, sometimes you are for the first time in the top eight, you don't know how it's going to go, if you're going to play a good level.

"I am lost for words".

Play continued with serve, but the early break allowed Goffin to serve for and claim the second set 6-3. He opened the second set with fight; holding another impressive service game before breaking Federer and then holding his second service game to love.

After an hour-long opening set, the two players matched each other in the second until the Belgian broke for 4-3 having survived a break point in the previous game.

Canavero also said that the details of the surgery are likely to be released in a few days by a surgical journal. He has said that it could happen this year, for instance, and that the surgery could even take place in the UK.

A double fault from Goffin at game point at 2-1 looked to have cost Goffin, but he turned it back around to lead 3-1.

Either way, the final will produce a first-time victor for ATP's year-end showcase event, whether it is Dimitrov who is making his debut in the ATP Finals, or Goffin, who played one match as an alternate in 2016 and made his debut as an outright qualifier this year.

They proved costly misses as a backhand skewed just wide put Dimitrov 4-2 clear before a reaction volley, looping lob and whipped backhand soon set up three championship points.

Jack Sock booked a place in the semifinals of the ATP Finals with a surprise 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win over German Alexander Zverev. A gruelling contest, but Dimitrov eventually crunched a final deciding set 6-3 victory.

As the tension mounted, Goffin saved three match points on his own serve but Dimitrov held his nerve to seal the match on his fifth opportunity.

But Dimitrov, 26, has only started hitting the high notes this year, winning his first Masters title in Cincinnati in August and now adding what is regarded as the "fifth Grand Slam".
