"Making a coaching change is never easy", UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero said in a statement, "but it's an especially hard decision when you know that a coach has given his all to our university".

UCLA is moving on from Jim Mora, and it has tapped a former coach under Jim Harbaugh to be its head guy for the time being. Jedd Fisch, who had been serving as the team's offensive coordinator, will take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. However, UCLA is trending in the wrong direction, posting records below.500 each of the last two seasons.

"Making a coaching change is never easy, but it's an especially hard decision when you know that a coach has given his all to our University", UCLA athletics director Dan Guerrero said. Starting with its rush defense - which ranked dead last in the nation entering this weekend, an especially bad look for a defensive-minded coach - the Bruins underachieved in nearly every facet of the game except quarterback play in 2017, leading to a 5-6 record (3-5 in the Pac-12) with one game left. The Bruins went just 4-8 in 2016 due to an ineffective defense and an injury to quarterback Josh Rosen.

Mora's successor will be charged with a few goals: keeping pace with USC and leading the Bruins to their first Pac-12 championship since 1998.

College football has yet another premier job opening.

A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.

It's hard to imagine that Kelly won't be at or near the top of UCLA's list.

Kelly has also been closely linked to Florida, which fired Jim McElwain at the end of October.

We're about to find out just how realistic it is.
