Congress, BJP spar over delay in Parliament's winter session

"Congress' love for parliament is a pleasant surprise".

"Since Finance Minister used a word which deserves to be condemned.This is unfortunate; it should not happen in the largest democracy of the world what we are seeing", Congress senior leader and deputy leader of the party in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma told reporters.

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad hit back at the Congress, claiming the Opposition chose to walk out of Parliament whenever presented with "uncomfortable" facts on demonetisation. "Congress' record is well known", he said.

Jaitley however said the Winter session will take place which the government is intending to postpone due to the Gujarat election on November 9 and Nov.14.

A day after Congress president Sonia Gandhi accused the Modi government of "sabotaging" Parliament's winter session, parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar on Tuesday alleged that the Opposition party was levelling allegations out of desperation and frustration as it would be routed in assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

The Winter Session is generally convened in the third week of November and continues till the third week of December.

Prasad said Modi was the "pradhan sevak" (prime servant).

He said the government is trying to evade and avoid accountability in Parliament "on its acts of ommission and commission". He said Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was raising the issue in his campaign in Gujarat and had done so in UP assembly polls too but lost badly while BJP won 75% of seats.

"The Congress ran away from meaningful debate be it demonetisation or GST". Only one man knows and they call him Brahma, the creator.

"A Delhi High Court order which was later affirmed by Supreme Court has clear said that since the Prime Minister is an SPG protectee and he has the right to use the planes and helicopters of Defence Ministry even during elections", he said.
