Thanksgiving Day travel expected to be busy in Phoenix

After the largest pre-Thanksgiving increase in years, gas prices have dropped 3 cents in the last week as a record 46 million people are expected to hit the road for the busiest travel weekend of the year. AAA credits a growing economy and low unemployment for putting people in the traveling mood.

The automotive club predicts that 2.25 million New Englanders will be traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday, the highest number since 2005.

Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans has seen passenger counts increase by 5 to 7 percent each month this year.

AAA's projections are based on economic forecasting and research by IHS Markit.

Road trips will cost more, however.

And once you're out of Chicago, things don't necessarily get better from there. Others will travel by air or train.

This is due to daily commuters mixing with holiday travelers heading out.
