"All legal steps are already being taken regarding this decision in the first instance".

Former Manchester City football star Robinho has reportedly been sentenced to nine years in prison for rape by a Milan court. The married forward along with five other men have been charged.

Because of that, the verdict is effectively put on hold until the appeals process is completed and no sentence will be enforced until then.

The 33-year old player is currently now playing in his homeland with Atletico Minero.

A statement on Robinho's Instagram page on Thursday night said that he had "already defended himself against the charges, maintaining that he played no part in the incident". Brazil does not extradite its own citizens when they are sentenced in other countries.
