"In 2016, the Person of the Year was Donald J Trump, who upended the political world after unexpectedly defeating his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton to become the President of the United States", it said. "TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6", TIME tweeted.

But the real estate tycoon came up trumps past year, when the magazine gave him the title, describing him as the "President of the Divided States of America".

Many Twitter users found Trump's tweet to be in poor taste, and mocked the president for his "fragile ego" and his "obsession" with the magazine. "TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6", Time said in a tweet.

Now Sean Hannity is getting in the ring and is challenging Time Magazine to answer whether or not they approached Trump at all.

The US President was named TIME's Person of the Year in 2016, after his historic - and unexpected - election to the highest office in his land. It was changed to a gender-neutral title in 1999.

Other prominent personalities and groups that has been recognised with such award include Barrack Obama, former USA president (2012), Pope Francis (2013), Ebola fighters (2014), and Angela Merkel (2015). But that didn't stop him again going on the attack a few days later. "I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!", Mr. Trump wrote.

"They used to call it "Man of the Year, ' but they can't do that anymore, so they call it 'person".

There were also suggestions on social media that the cover featuring Mr Trump was designed in a way that made it seem he had "devil horns" with the placement of the letter "M" in the magazine's name directly behind his head.

He also began trolling Time Magazine while also making a jab at CNN.

President Donald Trump claimed Friday afternoon that he turned down an offer to be Time Magazine's person of the year.
