"Neoen is pleased to be able to reinforce its Australian footprint through the achievement of the Hornsdale Wind Farm & Battery and is extremely proud to contribute further to the development of renewable energy in Australia".

In March, the State Government came out with its Energy Plan to deliver clean, affordable and reliable energy to South Australians and included the nation's largest battery to store renewable energy and have back up power when it is needed.

Today is a big day for Tesla and the residents of South Australia, as the company has turned on its massive Powerpack battery at Neoen's Hornsdale wind farm. Musk made good on his word with plenty of time to spare: The battery project was completed in just 63 days.

Jay Weatherill stated now, the South Australia is competing others in the rival of making renewable energy and it has made the history in the making.

Musk accepted the challenge, adding if he couldn't produce the battery within 100 days of signing the contract the battery and installation would be free.

Israel Horovitz, Founder Of Gloucester Stage, Resigns As Sexual Misconduct Allegations Emerge

Despite having a rapidly growing wind power (than the rest of Australia), South Australia has been facing a series of blackouts in the last 18 months after a devastating storm in April and since then the government had been facing a lot of criticism, prompting it to look for a solution. It will deliver energy during peak usage hours to help maintain the state's supply, and could power 30,000 homes, Tesla said.

Lithium-ion batteries have a greater charge cycle than conventional lead-acid batteries, and can respond within seconds. "It can address those stability issues very quickly without needing to resort to using large power plants", said Praveen Kathpal, vice president of AES, a losing bidder to build the battery.

Some have called the battery a "Hollywood solution", which likely stems from the flashy nature of the battery's creation in a country that does still rely partly on fossil fuels.

Tesla said it hopes the project "provides a model for future deployments around the world".
