Bears notebook: Gould relishes his 'special' kick; plus notes on Prosinski, injuries

San Francisco moved the ball throughout the game, out-gaining the Bears 388-147. Purely a boom-bust RB2 option at this point due to his utter lack of receiving skills, Howard gets a worse matchup in Week 14 at Cincinnati.

For the Bears' brass, evaluating the loss to the 49ers extends beyond Garoppolo's performance (26-for-37, 293 yards) or Gould's triumphant return (field goals of 33, 28, 35, 34 and 24 yards).

San Francisco (2-10) won for the second time in the past three games and earned its first road victory of the season.

Garoppolo would be proficient between the red zones throughout the middle of the game, but he struggled to lead his team to the promised land.

Barkley would be cut before the start of the season and Hoyer was ineffective, handing the reins to Beathard - a rookie who threw for fewer than 150 yards per game as a senior last fall at Iowa.

Marquise Goodwin hauled in all eight of his targets for 99 yards. However, Garoppolo will be a free agent next spring, and while the Niners will have the chance to use the franchise tag to retain him if the two sides can't agree on a contract, there's a chance the young QB could be little more than a rental.

While San Francisco may be trending upward after their quarterback change, Chicago's season is spiraling out of control. Carlos Hyde finished with 54 yards on 17 carries and Matt Breida finished with 45 yards on 12 carries.

Rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky made his eighth consecutive start for Chicago after taking over for Mike Glennon.

Rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky (12-for-15, 102 yards, a touchdown, two sacks) improved from his terrible outing last week against the Eagle, but that should have been expected. Trubiskiy recovered his own fumble. The 49ers didn't force a turnover, but they did sack Trubisky twice. It looked like a confident unit - when was the last time you could say that about San Francisco's offense? The 49ers came in with the 30th-ranked run defense, but the Bears couldn't take advantage.

Robbie Gould was no doubt the MVP today for the San Francisco 49ers.

The play of the day was generated by Tarik Cohen, whose spectacular 61-yard punt return touchdown gave the Bears a 14-6 lead midway through the second quarter.

Robbie Gould, who spent his first 11 National Football League seasons kicking for the Bears, provided most of the offense for the 49ers on Sunday with field goals of 33, 28, 35, 34 and 24 yards. The presence of star special teamer Raheem Mostert was certainly missed.
