The college football playoff committee made their decision in North Texas. That is a matchup of 11-2 teams that have played each other in the Rose Bowl seven times. Georgia put itself in position to make the playoff after a road win over Notre Dame in Week 2 and with the exception of their loss to the Tigers, the Bulldogs rolled through SEC play, winning by an average of 29 points in their seven regular season SEC victories. Conference championships are important.

Alabama is the only team to earn a spot in every College Football Playoff since the format began.

The No. 1 Tigers will face the No. 4 Crimson Tide in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, and the No. 2 Sooners will play the No. 3 Bulldogs in the Rose Bowl Game Presented by Northwestern Mutual on January 1, as announced Sunday by the CFP selection committee.

The Big Ten-champion Buckeyes will play in the Cotton Bowl on December 29 against Pac-12 champion Southern California.

Alabama was selected as the fourth team, over Ohio State.

"Two wins over top-four teams this year, another blowout win against a (No.) 12 team in America", Meyer told ESPN.

One of the asterisks next to OSU's resume is the 55-24 loss to Iowa earlier in the season. "You wouldn't be talking to me". Teams like Penn State, TCU, USC, Wisconsin, Auburn and Miami were all around the top 10 in November and had a case to be a top-four team at some point.

"I just think we've got a lot of good football players and we've got a good team, and I think a lot of people around this country think we're one of the four best teams in the country".
