Gronkowski apologized to White after the game.

A first-team All-Pro selection automatically would trigger the largest possible payday, though, and Gronkowski, a four-time All-Pro, remains a front-runner for that honor. While White was laying face-down on the ground, Gronkowski (who was the intended receiver on the play) dove into White from behind and hit him in the head with his shoulder.

The Bills were having none of Gronkowski or Belichick's apologies, saying the hit was dirty and calling for the league to suspend Gronkowski.

White is now in the league's concussion protocol as well.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick apologized to Bills coach Sean McDermott for the hit when the two shook hands on the field after the game.

"I definitely want to apologize to number 27", he said, referring to White. "I mean, I'm not in the business of that", Gronkowski said. "It was a lot of frustration and I was just really frustrated at that moment and it just happened naturally through emotions and frustration". "I don't really believe in the type of shots like that, but just through the frustration process, the game of football, emotions - it's just what happened".

Zolak thought that White was holding on the play and that somehow excused Gronkowski's retaliation. That pass wound up being intercepted by White. He ended the game with nine catches for 147 yards, but the Bills rookie clearly got under his skin on that play that ended in an interception. It's like insane. Like, what am I supposed to do? What am I supposed to do? And then they don't call that [on White]. "It was just frustration". Gronkowski, who now has 55 catches for 849 yards and seven touchdowns, reached Tier 3 on Sunday, bumping his salary from $5.25 million to $6.75 million.

As to what he can do to combat what he feels is unfair treatment from the officials, Gronkowski said, "I don't know". "That's not cool. It's wonderful to me that you don't get ejected for something like that".
