Sri Lanka minister prevents cricketers from travelling to India

When News1st inquired the Sports Minister regarding the matter, he claimed that he was not asked to approve the ODI team by Sri Lanka Cricket, which is why he called back the team.

The selectors had decided a squad of 15 players including nine which are not part of test team, under the captaincy of Thisara Perera.

The visitors are also scheduled to play three Twenty20 internationals against India starting on December 20 in Cuttack.

As far as the Test series is concerned, chasing 410 to level the series, Sri Lanka were 31/3 at stumps, still needing another 379 to win the game with seven wickets in hand.

Jayasekera has the power to make two changes to the squad named by Sri Lanka Cricket.

In an unprecedented development, the Sports Minister, Dayasiri Jayasekera last night had ordered all nine Sri Lanka ODI players heading to India for the Limited Over leg of the current series to return home as they were leaving the country without his approval.

While the first match is scheduled to be played on December 10, the second encounter will take place in Mohali on December 13 followed by the third and final ODI in Visakhapatnam on December 17. Gunaratne was back in the side for the first time since being injured in July while playing India in Galle.

Former skipper Angelo Mathews has also returned to the side after missing the last ODI series against Pakistan through injury.
