WEATHER: Up to 10cm of snow could fall in Wakefield on Sunday

It's the question on everyone's lips.

GARDAI have issued a warning about snow and ice as a national weather alert remains in place.

Will North Devon get snow? On high ground, it could even be as deep as 20cm.

Met √Čireann forecaster John Eagleton said there is unlikely to be snow during the daytime but snow will gather on higher ground.

There is a chance of up to 5cm of snow on higher ground, and the County Council's 37 frontline gritters will be treating all of Devon's main salting routes.

It will remain in place from 4pm on Thursday afternoon until 6pm Friday, December 8.

"It will be cold for the next 10 days, with temperatures hardly making it up to 10C during the day", said Mr Eagleton.

Accumulations of up to three centimetres are possible in parts while icy conditions are likely on the roads.

Commenting on the research, Deirdre Ashe, Director of Personal Lines at Liberty Insurance, said: "Our research reveals that as a country, we now lack confidence in our driving abilities in adverse weather conditions".

Sleet and snow will continue to fall into Saturday night, mainly over northern areas, while it will remain cold across the country.

Severe winds will affect parts of Scotland, but it'll see strong and blustery winds over Ireland also.

The last time North Devon saw a proper coating of snow was in 2010.
