Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December - the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The United States urges all nations to respect their commitments enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and apply them equally to all.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights or UDHR is the most translated document in the world, available in more than 500 languages, says United Nations.

So on this day, I remember my father and the rights of all humans across the world. Our Government remains committed to working in closer collaboration with our provincial, territorial, and Indigenous partners in implementing our worldwide human rights obligations and commitments, including the shift towards basing relations with Indigenous peoples on the recognition of Indigenous rights.

The theme this year is, "Let's stand up for equality, justice and human dignity". In his Human Rights Day statement, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein issued a call to all to defend human rights and uphold justice.

The Human Rights Declaration had drafted by the representatives of diverse legal and cultural backgrounds from all the religions of the world. Every year Human Rights day has observed on 10 December. Exercising this right significantly allows each of us to have our say every five years, on who governs us. An absence of human rights stained the hands of governments and threatened their rules. According to a report by the Japan Times, the resolution said: "The human rights situation in the DPRK continues to be of great concern".

Mr. Guterres noted that while human rights abuses did not end when the Universal Declaration was adopted, the instrument has helped countless people to gain greater freedom and security, and has also helped to prevent violations, obtain justice for wrongs, and strengthen national and worldwide human rights laws and safeguards. Whether it's about employment, family or something else, human rights ensure we are fairly treated and not undermined by the state. It is a celebration of who you are as an individual and a celebration of humanity overall - born free, with equal dignity and rights. Kiribati celebrates the day on December 11.
