That changed today, with Apple announcing that the iMac Pro would be available starting from the 14th of December.

The iMac Pro starts at $4,999/£4,999, which will get you an 8-core Xeon processor, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. There could also be a 14 core version, according to YouTuber Marques Brownlee, who uploaded a hands-on review of the iMac Pro. The computer's near $5000 price is set to make it a device reserved only for the dedicated professional with resources to spare - and that's just the base model.

Either way, the new iMac Pro is here.

Global arms sales rise for the first time in 5 years

"T$3 he iMac Pro is a graphics powerhouse-I continually marveled at how crisp and clean everything was rendered with no apparent overhead or impact on performance", writes aerospace engineer Craig Hunter.

"All iMac Pros get the same 27" 5120x2880 "5K" 10-bit display that can hit 500 cd/m² brightness. And we did it without adding a millimeter to its iconic all-in-one design. It has 802.11ac WiFi built in, along with Bluetooth 4.2. The whole machine is decked out in a Space Grey finish and includes an Apple Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse 2.

There's no indication that Apple will postpone the launch. Once you invest in an iMac Pro, you're stuck with that configuration until you sell it (fortunately, Macs do tend to retain their value on the secondhand market better than PCs) or retire it.

Schiller also told T3 that the team behind the iMac Pro was dedicated to creating a computer "truly designed for pros", and promised that the new machine "inside, is a different computer" from the last generation of iMacs.
