Akayed Ullah has been identified as the man suspected of detonating the pipe bomb.

Ullah is a Bangladeshi national who was inspired by the Islamic State, law officials told the Associated Press.

Further investigation into Ullah's background and motives will be conducted by the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), O'Neill said.

Ullah is now at Bellevue Hospital on Manhattan's East Side. Police reported that three others suffered minor injuries. He intentionally detonated that device, " CNN quoted Commissioner James O'Neil as saying. The suspect allegedly packed the 5-inch metal pipe bomb and battery pack into the right side of his jacket, but the device exploded earlier than intended.

"At this point in time, all we know of is one individual who, thank God, was unsuccessful in his aims", Mayor de Blasio said.

The place is New York Port Authority, a busy bus terminal.

Police quickly evacuated the Port Authority station and closed roads in the area, which were filled with police cars and ambulances with flashing lights. It also has metro stations. All of the injuries were non-life-threatening, according to the Fire Department of NY.

The New York Daily News reports that he then attempted to set off the rest of his bomb, but was apprehended by two PAPD officers who stripped him his homemade device before he could do so.
