Australia has been revealed as a nation of slime-makers in Google's annual run-down of the most popular online searches.

Hurricane Harvey, which hit Texas in late August and caused massive flooding, was No. 8 on the list, and the fidget spinner, the top new toy of the year, was No. 10.

Matt Lauer, who was sacked by NBC last month after he was accused of inappropriate sexual behavior, was the most searched person in the world.

But there were those who had no cares about belly fat: according to Google, the most-searched-for recipes in SA were oxtail recipes, quickly followed by those involving sweet potato, creamed spinach, beef stews, and vegan ingredients. Super Bowl 5. Las Vegas Shooting 6.

In other parts of the world, Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein led the list of most Google people. Meghan Markle made the list at No. 2 because of her engagement to Prince Harry. The most searched television shows included "13 Reasons Why", "Game of Thrones" and "This Is Us".

In other notable search results, the iPhone 8 outperformed the iPhone X in both general search and consumer tech searches for both global and USA audiences.

Meanwhile, throughout the year's various natural disasters, people searched "how to help" more than ever before.

While it's far from the only major story in 2017, what's breathtaking about these results is how the recent reckoning about bad behavior by men in power came to overtake the news cycle in the final quarter of the year and how, as more allegations surface every day, it continues to grow. Australians also wanted to know what Bitcoin was, and did not show much interest for United States leader Donald Trump's presidency.
