PBS has suspended Tavis Smiley amid sexual misconduct allegations made against the show's host and namesake, Tavis Smiley.

The probe revealed allegations that Smiley had engaged in sexual relationships with multiple subordinates, Variety reported, citing unnamed sources. Some of the witnesses felt that their employment status was linked to their relationships with Smiley, and said that Smiley created an abusive work environment.

The "Tavis Smiley" show is produced by independent production company TS Media. Nearly immediately following the meeting, this story broke in Variety as an 'exclusive.' Indeed, I learned more about these allegations reading the Variety story than the PBS investigator shared with me, the accused, in our 3 hour face to face meeting.

"The inquiry uncovered multiple, credible allegations of conduct that is inconsistent with the values and standards of PBS, and the totality of this information led to today's decision", a statement from PBS reads.

A well-known talk show host, Smiley is also a political commentator, philanthropist, host, entrepreneur, and an advocate.

Supreme Court adjourns hearing in Unitech case against NCLT till Wednesday

"I have the utmost respect for women and celebrate the courage of those who have come forth to tell their truth", Smiley said in a statement released on Facebook after the suspension was announced.

This has gone too far. "And, I, for one, intend to fight back", he said.

"Put simply, PBS overreacted and conducted a biased and sloppy investigation, which led to a rush to judgment, and trampling on a reputation that I have spent an entire lifetime trying to establish", Smiley said". "I look forward to actively participating in that conversation".

While a statement from a PBS spokeswoman did not say what sort of misconduct was alleged, PBS News Hour, on its website, said the allegations involved "sexual misconduct".

PBS' move to halt distribution of Smiley's show comes less than a month after it terminated its contract with Charlie Rose, who was accused of harassing multiple women by making unwanted sexual advances.
