Bundle up! Temperatures may drop as low as -5 degrees tonight

The alert affects Munster, inland areas of Leinster, Connacht, Donegal, Monaghan and Cavan.

Temperatures in Kildare are set to plummet tonight after Met Eireann issued a Status Orange weather warning earlier today.

The warning is valid from 9pm tonight until 10am tomorrow morning.

It's expected there will be frost or icy patches on untreated roads, with Peel, the central valley and Glen Helen among the areas worst affected.

It also stated that there will be "severe air" and ground frost returning.

"Lowest temperatures will range from -1 near east and south coasts to -5 or -6 degrees well inland", Met Éireann said.

"Monday will be dry again in most places".

"A mostly dry day will follow with sunny spells for a time, but cloud will gradually thicken from the south, with patchy drizzle developing near the south coast". There will be light to moderate winds and highest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees.
