The event, which is free to the public, is an opportunity to honor the accomplishments of King and his work with the civil rights movement.

The community is invited to experience "Art Activism in the '60s", an outreach event set for 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, in Heritage Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center.

The concert itself, which takes place at 6 p.m. January 15 at the Vernon AME Church, will include historical re-enactments by the Black Wall Street Players, written and directed by Rebecca Marks Jimerson.

Tybee Island residents braved the cold to remember Martin Luther King Junior a little more than a week before the official Martin Luther King day. All are welcome to participate by signing up at volunteer.psu.edu. Trash and recycling normally collected on Monday, Jan. 15, will be collected on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Garbage collection and emergency services will operate without interruption.

A first-time event is planned for January 20 in an effort to celebrate civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

A unity banner will be created throughout the day to display in the museum, as well as unity bracelets for individuals.
