ATLANTA, GA - JANUARY 08: U.S. President Donald Trump on field during the national anthem prior to the CFP National Championship presented by AT&T between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Washington Post's Josh Dawsey tweeted that Trump was "both cheered and booed as he strode to midfield for the national anthem". But because of Trump's repeated defense of the song and the fact that he likely hears the national anthem more than most Americans, many expect him to know it. People who oppose President Trump were obviously quick to point out the error, but after a while, even his supporters began sadly noting that he looked out of sorts.

"We want our flag respected, and we want our National Anthem respected also", Trump said during a speech to a farmers' convention in Nashville, Tennessee. I went from VERY successful businessman, to top T.V. Star.to President of the United States (on my first try).

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these National Football League owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, he's fired?'" Trump said in August.

The Flag Code covers aspects of etiquette when the anthem is played in some detail.

Billionaire Democrat, Tom Steyer to oust Trump, Republicans
Steyer's first expenditure will be sending copies of Michael Wolff's Fire and Fury book to each member of Congress, he said. He said it would depend upon political events, but was confident of a greater investment.

The US President was on the field for The Star-Spangled Banner before the College Football Playoff national title games between Alabama and Georgia, and seemed to only sing some of the words. Those in military uniform should salute.

The majority of Americans - 61 percent - do not know all the words to the "The Star-Spangled Banner", according to a Harris Interactive survey.

Former President Ronald Reagan once said: "I can't claim to know the words of all the national anthems in the world, but I don't know of any other that ends with a question and a challenge as ours does".

This comment is believed to be relating to the ongoing criticism Trump gave professional football players who kneel during the anthem to protest racial injustice, as well as the NFL itself for allowing it. In October 2017, he had also asked Vice President Mike Pence to leave an Indianapolis Colts game early after the players knelt during the National Anthem.
