"Virtual reality, self-driving cars, and full vehicle connectivity were all once considered technologies of the distant future".

Kia debuted different cockpits demonstrating technology for the Niro EV concept. "As they rapidly become a reality, Kia is exploring how to adapt these new technologies for its customers", said Dr. Woong-cheol Yang, vice chairman and head of Hyundai-Kia R&D Center.

That includes what Kia calls a highly efficient battery-electric powertrain, a unique human-machine interface and a brand-new "motion graphic" lighting system. Of those vehicles, five will be new hybrids, another five will be plug-in hybrids, and one will be a fuel-cell electric vehicle.

After unveiling the new Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid in Los Angeles last fall, the South Korean automaker got to work on a new version of the model.

Kia has revealed its plans for the next decade at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The company says it's equipped with a 150kW electric motor, along with a 64kWh battery pack. It will issue an alert if it detects a pedestrian or cyclist come in front of the vehicle. It'll go hand in hand with the automaker's plans for connected and autonomous cars, too.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day march January 15

GeForce Experience Gets New Freestyle, Ansel Features
Freestyle is set to debut on January 9 with support for as many as 100 titles, expanding to a larger number in the near future. The free software is now capable of running more than 160 games at maximum visual settings, at up to 120 fps.

Another cockpit showcases a feature that allows rear passengers to listen to different music from front passengers, made possible by noise-cancellation technology creating two separate zones in the vehicle. For example, the Niro EV Concept is equipped with the new Active Pedestrian Warning System (APWS) which combines front view cameras, object recognition technology and front speakers to alert pedestrians or cyclists crossing in front of the vehicle. The major tech event may seem like the least attractive place to unveil a vehicle and it greatly suggests that the Niro EV wants to be known for its technology rather than driving capabilities.

The Niro EV concept is a nice follow-up to the Soul EV, which is rated at 111 miles of range.

Next up, connected auto technologies will be a staple in every vehicle segment, with the goal to make every single model a connected auto by 2030.

Alongside its new technologies, Kia has revealed plans to roll-out its "WiBLE" car-sharing service - launched in Korea previous year - to new regions from 2018, starting with Europe.
