When Oprah Winfrey's partner Stedman Graham said she "would absolutely" run for the White House if prompted by the people, he misheard the question, Winfrey's best friend Gayle King said.

That being said, an Oprah for President campaign in King's view, still seemed like a pipe dream.

"I'll beat Oprah. Oprah would be a lot of fun". I do think that.

During a 2008 rally for the candidate, Winfrey said she was "not here for partisan beliefs" and that over the years, she'd voted for as many Republicans as she had Democrats. Actor Natasha Rothwell also weighed in, reminding Ivanka of the accusations against her dad, as did author Michael Wolff, who said, "Who does she think her father is?"

However, CNN, citing two of Oprah's close friends, reported on Monday that the television and movie producer and actress was actively thinking about a White House bid.

She used the show's success to build a media empire encompassing movie production, magazines, cable TV, and satellite radio, becoming one of the world's richest women.

This isn't the first time she has attempted to shut down rumors of a future in politics, telling CBS back in October that it wouldn't happen.

Late-night show host Jimmy Kimmel said Monday that he preferred Winfrey to Trump.

Many invited activists from outside the celebrity fold as their plus-ones, ensuring the awards were explicitly politicized (as they should be: pop culture is political). Maybe she'll play it by ear with a campaign announcement, too.

Beyond her rise from poverty, Winfrey's success as a multidimensional media figure has come from promoting ways for women to assert themselves, typically outside the political arena.

Winfrey, who spent the bulk of her career as a talk show host, proclaimed, 'a new day is on the horizon'. That could soften what Palmieri describes as an enduring resistance among some voters to women with political ambition.
