Recently, Cable was linked as a strong candidate to become the head coach for the Indianapolis Colts, who fired Chuck Pagano upon the conclusion of the season. The Seahawks appeared in back-to-back Super Bowls in 2013 and 2014, winning Super Bowl XLVIII to earn the franchise its first ever Lombardi Trophy.

The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and the Seattle Times' Bob Condotta reported Wednesday afternoon that the Seahawks have fired offensive line coach/assistant head coach Tom Cable. Rather than a run from the 1-yard line in the final minute, Bevell called for a pass that was intercepted by Malcolm Butler and cost Seattle its chance at a second straight title.

Bevell was in charge of calling plays, while Cable was responsible for a run game and offensive line that failed to meet expectations. Much of that was also due to the presence of running back Marshawn Lynch, Wilson's scrambling ability, and an offensive line that was better in the earlier half of Bevell's tenure. Wilson had over 4,000 yards through the air and the team averaged 141 rushing yards per game. After spending four years ranked in the top-five or higher in rushing, the Seahawks fell into the bottom third of the league in 2016 and 2017, and ultimately ranked 14th overall in weighted offensive DVOA for 2017. He was named both offensive line coach and assistant head coach.
