After the event, throngs of admirers started encouraging the founder of OWN television station to run for president in 2020.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday predicted he'd clock Oprah Winfrey should she made a decision to run for the White House in 2020.

Even First Daughter Ivanka Trump tweeted that her speech was "empowering & inspiring".

"Oprah would be a lot of fun", said Trump, who added that he knows her "very well".

The prospect of a Winfrey candidacy was met with enthusiasm among a number of Democrats, who see her as an inspirational response to the Trump presidency.

The highlight of the evening was when Oprah Winfrey brought the Golden Globes crowd to its feet with a fiery speech calling out sexual harassers around the world: "Their time is up", she said. I don't think she's going to run. "She had Donald Trump - this is before politics - her last week and she had Donald Trump and my family, it was very nice", the President said.

"I'd love to have Oprah".

Winfrey received a roof-rattling, rousing ovation for her words at the Globes: "For too long, women haven't been heard or believed if they dared speak the truth to the power of those men".
