But it might be bad for Apple's bottom line, analysts at Barclays wrote in a note on Wednesday.

According to the complaint, on December 20, 2017, defendant allegedly admitted to purposefully slowing down the operating speed of older iPhone models. The reason behind the performance throttling does make sense: As older batteries degrade over time, they can't get along with the high demands of the iPhone's processor.

United Kingdom residents can now take advantage of Apple's heavily reduced out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement scheme. The stock was up as much as 1.3 per cent earlier in the day.

However, it has not addressed user concerns over whether rival smartphone makers implement a similar policy, and if they don't, why Apple feels it needs to do so with its handsets. The iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, and iPhone SE all qualify for the $29 battery replacement.

Apple said that it was slowing down the iPhone to prevent it from unnecessary switching off.

Previous reports have claimed that Apple plans to release a 5.8 and 6.5-inch OLED models of the next iPhone, with a mid-size 6.1-inch TFT LCD display as well. "The company's stock rose nearly 50 percent previous year, largely on hopes for a "super cycle" with the new iPhone X and 8, where a large number of users upgrade". It made the move, it said, "to address our customers concerns, to recognize their loyalty and to regain the trust of anyone who may have doubted Apples intentions".

Checking your iPhone's battery setting screen can sometimes lead you to a straightforward message reading: "Your iPhone battery may need to be serviced".

Note: Although the exact battery condition is not relevant to get the replacement, as clarified by Apple, the company could refuse to do the replacement if there is other damage to the device or it finds interfering third-party components. Apple naturally says that the throttling of the devices was in the name of what's best for consumers, but some aren't buying that response.
